Okubo (大久保, Ōkubo) was one of Kuwabara's friends, a member of his gang and an ally of Yusuke Urameshi.
He is voiced by Hidenari Ugaki in the Japanese version and by Kyle Hebert in the English dub.
Appearance
Okubo was a tough street kid with black hair and his hair styled in the 50s greaser style of Kuwabara's. He was rather heavyset.
Personality
Okubo is the most sympathetic of the group, as despite being a delinquent, he works hard for the sake of his family. He seems to be the weakest of the group, as Kuwabara describes him as rarely hitting and usually getting beat up (though he may have been lying for Okubo's sake), but he is shown successfully headlocking an opponent after Eikichi was saved in the manga.
Synopsis
Okubo was very loyal to Kuwabara and helped him when his kitten Eikichi was kidnapped by the possessed human Sakamoto, telling Kuwabara to beat him up for the sake of the kitten. He has a part time job to help provide for his single mother and siblings. Akashi attempted to use this to advantage to weaken the ties between Kuwabara's gang, as if Kuwabara and his gang ever got in a fight again, or if they failed to get above 50 on the Chem test, he would force Okubo to quit his part time job (which are normally not allowed in Japanese schools, but Okubo was given special permission due to his family). Ultimately, despite Akashi's attempts, Okubo was able to keep his job to continue supporting his family. He was also attacked by Mitarai and he almost drowned while trying to help Kuwabara, but when he, Miyamoto and Sawamura told Kurama about the incident that Seaman did to the trio, his memory of that incident was removed. After that, Okubo, Komada, and Miyamoto were sent home. Both Yusuke and Kuwabara avenged Kirishima, Okubo and Sawamura on both occasions.
