The Lonely Journey (孤独の旅路!!, Kodoku no tabiji!!) is the 6th chapter of the Yu Yu Hakusho manga series, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.
Summary[]
Botan and Yusuke visited an old man who was going to die soon. The old man had lost his family six months ago and he was often being bothered by distant relatives, who wanted his estate, but the old man chased everyone with his aggressive behavior and cold treatment. Botan then saw a tanuki watching the old man and they went to talk to it. The tanuki explained that one day he got caught in a trap and Shinji and his grandfather freed and saved him. And now as he finally learned how to transform, he wanted to thank Shinji and the old man.
As they wondered what to do, the tanuki eventually turned into Shinji and went to spend some time with the old man, who after seeing him, got really soft and happy of being able to see Shinji. Being able to transform only during the night, the tanuki spend couple of nights with the old man. On the fifth night, the old man knew he was going to die and wanted Shinji to stay until the morning. The tanuki ended up staying, but in the morning turned back into tanuki. Seeing him, the old man explained he knew he was tanuki and was happy that he survived and had grew so big. He then thanked the tanuki and died hugging him.
